The original Free Budapest Walking Tour. Insightful, fun-filled and informative walks about history, society, architecture and what Hungarians are actually like. Walks are focused around the best sights Buda and Pest have to offer. The goal of this walking tour is to discover and experience our city through the eyes of the insiders, to bring to life streets, bridges and statues and of course to have fun. Tour ends at the Fisherman Bastion area with useful orientation about thermal baths, museums, places to go out, places to eat out, and how to avoid the tourist traps in Budapest.
Tour starts daily at 10:30 AM
Tour leaves from the Vörösmarty square (tér). Meeting point is at the lion fountain. (last stop of M1 yellow line)
Walk lasts 2.5 hours and covers about two and a half miles (i.e.about 3.5 kilometers if you think metrically). It is an easy walk with the exception of the 8 minutes long uphill walk to the Castle District. Tour goes at a gentle pace. It is possible to use the funicular or the public bus instead of the uphill walk. In this case guests are accompanied by our staff.
The afternoon Free Budapest Walking Tour. As many of you are enjoying late nights in the city and it's hard to wake up early enough to join our morning walks at 10.30AM, we designed an easy going afternoon walk for party people and travelers with jat lag. This refreshing walk covers the basic sights of Pest and Buda in an easygoing way and also updates you on what's hot and what's a must regarding Budapest nightlife and daytime activities. Lots of insider information, plus great exercise on the Castle Hill.

This tour also provides an interesting first hand account of life pre and post Iron Curtain and helps to understand the local way of living and not just see the city from a tourist's viewpoint. Sights of this interactive adventure include the 1956 uprising areas, the bronze bullet memorial, the flag with the hole and the eternal flame, the secret exit of a military bunker, the last Communist memorial in the inner city and other symbols of "Soviet friendship"
Tour ends with mementos from the guides childhood: propaganda text books, board games, school uniform, passport, ID book, postcards, badges, banknotes and coins. This is not a classical sightseeing walking tour but much more.

It covers the history of the largest synagogue in Europe, leads through the cemetery and the memorial garden,as well as other precious places of worship and the hidden Jewish symbols of the neighborhood.
