Some other program reccomendation for the second half of this week

From the 31st of August until the 5th of September there is a free beer festival going on with 250 different kinds of beer and some food trucks  on the Liberty square (Szabadsag ter in Hungarian) on the Pest side of the city, close to the Parliament. We visit this square on our Free Communism Walking Tours as well, and we reccommend you to visit this program on your own, too! 🙂 Here is the Facebook link of the event: https://fb.me/e/2vs8C8zFE

Hungary in general is a wine producing country with 22 wine regions, but in recent year there has been a craft beer revolution going on as well, so it is worth trying some of our beers as well!

See you soon on our free Budapest walking tours! 🙂

Dear Travelers!

Please note that the 20th of August is a National and bank holiday every year in Hungary. Shopping malls, banks, shop are closed except for some non-stop supermarkets in the city centre.

On this day we celebrate the foundation of the Hungarian state by our first king, Saint Stephen (or Stephen the 1st, who was canonised later).  If you would like to learn more about this, please feel free to join any of our free walking tours in Budapest. We do not run all our free tours as usual, but

On the rest of the weekend all our tours run as usual, please see the Daily tour schedule HERE.

Free programs on the 20th of August

Every year (except for last year 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic…) the state organizes huge fireworks in the city centre on the banks of the Danube which is free to join. Please note that there probably will be a crowd, but You can watch the fireworks from the banks of the Danube between Rakoczi bridge and Arpad bridge on both sides of the river. You can also go up to the top of the Gellert hill and the Castle hill.

Some of our museums are also free to visit on the 20th of August!

News 8th of August 2021

The Free Budapest Walking Tours Team in back! 🙂

As we have shared in our previous blog posts, we have been back operating free tours in Budapest since the 23rd of July, and it has been great to see your smiling faces again on our walking tours!

HERE we have shared some practical information in connection with booking our free tours, our two meeting points (one meeting point for our Free Budapest tour, Communism tour, Jewish district tour and Evening tour in Pest, AND a different meeting point for the Free Buda Castle tour in Buda) and the closure and renovation works of the famous Chain bridge. Please note these things if you would like to join us any time!

20th of August – a National and Bank holiday in Hungary

Please also keep it in mind that Friday, the 20th of August,  is a National and Bank holiday in Hungary every year. We celebrate our first King, Saint Stephen (Szent István in Hungarian) and the foundation of the Christian Hungarian state around the year 1000 after Christ. You can learn more about this on our free tours in Budapest.

We do have the Free Budapest Tour at 10:30 and the Free Jewish District Tour at 15:30 on this day starting on the Elisabeth square in Pest, but none of our other walking tours are running on this day!

Everything will be closed on the 20th of August: shops, shopping malls, grocery stores (some non stop supermarkets will be open in the city center), banks…

In the afternoon there are always several open air programs in Pest and Buda as well and then in the evening there are huge fireworks. Last year they were cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but this year you will have the chance to enjoy them again. The best spot to watch the fireworks is somewhere next to the river Danube in the city center!

See you soon on some of our free tours in Budapest! 🙂
