Warm and cosy breakfast places for winter mornings

If the weather turns freezing on a winter morning, what would make you feel better than a warm & delicious breakfast in a cosy restaurant or bakery? We have collected some places for you located in the heart of Budapest!

Before you do your Budapest sightseeing, it is worth to gather some energy in the morning especially when the weather is not the warmest here during winter months. If you’re planning to join any of our free walking tours in the morning or afternoon, it is also nice to fill your belly with a delicious Hungarian breakfast beforehand. Let’s see our recommendations:

1. Két szerecsen – Two Saracens

It’s located on Nagymező street 14., right next to Andrássy avenue (the Hungarian Champs Elysée). The choices are great here, starting from a simple croissant they have ‘bundás kenyér’ (Hungarian version of French toast, aka bread soaked in egg then deep fried) and all kinds of omelettes with Hungarian sausages, cheeses and so on. After your done with eating try their delicious coffees or hot chocolates. (If you miss breakfast, you can also hop in for lunch, they have a daily changing lunch menu for about 4 euros every day).

2. Cirkusz – Circus

This place is on Dob street under number 25. It a modern coffeehouse, restaurant and bar decorated with elements taken from the world of circuses. If you cannot deal with getting up early, don’t worry, they serve breakfast until 4 pm. Their breakfast menu includes ‘Salmon on rye bread with butter, parmesan and marinated tomato’, ‘Hungarian country-style breakfast: Duck liver paté, sausages, ham, French butter, toast, vegetables’ or ‘Ginger shot which contains ginger, fresh orange juice, honey’.

3. Friss pékség – Fresh bakery

If you are looking for something faster and cheaper (3-4 euros per person), choose this bakery. Their 2 shops are located on Garay utca 23. and Bajcsy-Zsilinszky street 34. (close to the Keleti pályaudvar – Eastern railway station and the second is a stone’s throw away from the Saint Stephen’s Basilica) and they offer delicious sweet and salty pastries as well.
